Fornebubanen

Oslo, Norway 2020-2029

The Fornebubanen is the largest subway development in Norway in many decades. The new subway line between is between Fornebu and Majorstuen in Oslo city. The stretch is approx. 7,7 kilometers. The entire route goes in a tunnel through complicated geology and urban areas. In addition, six new underground subway stations will be built on the stretch.

The project uses conventional driving methods in the tunnel work, which means that they drill and blast rock in the excavation phase. The rock is then secured with state-of-the-art rock bolts and shotcrete to secure the tunnel throughout its lifetime. The rock must then be injected, which means that it is sealed before it is blasted further, to avoid seepage and thus impacts on the surroundings.

Rönnskär

Implenia got the task of building a final repository for process waste from Boliden's copper smelter 350 meters below Boliden's Rönnskär plant. A total of 345,000 m3 of rock was drilled and blasted to create 1,212 meters of storage space divided into 8 storage rooms, as well as various tunnels and halls totalling 1,268 meters. The rooms in the deep repository are 18 meters high and 16 meters wide. .

Citylink Anneberg-Skanstull tunnel

Svenska kraftnät is building a new electricity connection between Anneberg and Skanstull to meet the growing need for electricity in Stockholm. The Anneberg-Skanstulls tunnel is the second of four phases in the Citylink project. The electricity connection will be an approx. 14 km long tunnel located around 50–100 meters under the city of Stockholm. More information here. .

Käppalaverket

NCC is refurbishing the Käppalaverket wastewater treatment plant on Lidingö, outside of Stockholm, in partnership with the Käppala Association, to upgrade the plant’s capacity and performance. Käppalaverket will continue to operate throughout the entire refurbishment process. Confined underground chambers place high demands on logistics and working methods. The refurbishment of Käppalaverket is scheduled for completion in 2027 when the tightened treatment requirements come into effect. More information here..

Västlänken – The West Link (railway connection tunnel)

The West Link is a major transport infrastructure project in Gothenburg, West Sweden. The project is a railway connection in a tunnel under the center of Gothenburg. The tunnel will connect commuter rail services to routes that pass through the city, and give rise to three new stations in Gothenburg. Stockholm’s new metro

The expansion of the metro system is the largest investment in public transport in the Stockholm region since the 1970s. Expanding the Stockholm metro will require many different contractors, for both large, complicated contracts and smaller assignments. The major construction works were begun in 2020 and are expected to take eight to ten years to complete. The Varberg tunnel (train tunnel)

The expansion of the railway through Varberg is one part of the expansion of the entire West Coast Line between Gothenburg and Lund. The intention is to create a quick, efficient, and environmentally friendly means of transport for both people and freight. The West Coast Line is one of the most important railways in Sweden. Its expansion to a double-track railway has been under way for many years and currently approximately 85 per cent of the West Coast line has been upgraded. With a fully upgraded double track, the capacity of the line will be greater and will mean an increase in the frequency of services for both passenger and freight trains. More information here.

The Stockholm bypass (road tunnel)

E4 The Stockholm bypass – Förbifart Stockholm – is a new route for the European highway (E4) past the Swedish capital. The new link will connect the southern and northern parts of the Stockholm County, relieve the arterial roads and the inner city of traffic and reduce the vulnerability of the Stockholm traffic system. Eysturoy and Sandoyar tunnel (sub-sea road tunnels)

The Eysteroy-tunnel is the first of two sub-sea tunnels being built by NCC on the Faroe Islands, and Pretec is happy to have signed the contract for rock support products.The materials will be delivered during a 3 years period. The two sub-sea tunnels, with a length of 11,2 and 10,5 kilometers, are the largest investment in infrastructure on the Faroe Islands ever and has a budget of 2.6 billion DDK. These tunnels will connect the islands Streymoy with Eysturoy and Streymoy with Sandoy. When the two tunnels are finished, travel time to the capital Torshavn will be shortened up to 1,5 hours for many of the residents on Faroe Islands. More information and pictures here and here.

The project includes the construction of two road tunnels. The Bakliholtan tunnel in the north is 443 m long, while the Liafjellet tunnel located in the south is 2,005 m long. More information here and here.

Dýrafjardargöng, (Road tunnel)

The tunnel will be 5.6 km long and will shorten the route of the Vestfjarðavegur by 26 km. The estimated cost of the tunnel is ISK 9.2 billion. More information here and here.

Phase I was completed in the autumn of 2017, about 14 kilometer of tunnel, some parts of the tunnel is subsea, including eight stations. Phase II did start 2014 and will be ready Year 2023. Phase II is about 7 kilometers long and have five stations and one train depot. More information here.

New Slussen, one of the largest urban transformation projects in Sweden

The construction of the New Slussen is one of the largest urban transformation projects in Sweden. The bus terminal: will be placed inside the Katarina bedrock. A safe and modern hub will be created for commuters from Nacka and Värmdö. The bus terminal will be connected with Saltsjöbanan and the underground, facilitating indoor movement between buses, trains and the underground. More information here.

Hatta Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project

Hatta in the Hajar Mountains, 140 km southeast of the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). 2019-2024

The Hatta pumped storage hydroelectric project will be the first hydroelectric power station in the Arabian Gulf region (GCC). It is part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 program, which has a goal of providing 75% of Dubai’s total power generation from clean energy sources by 2050. Designed to run for 80 years, our Pc-Coated NC-bolts was a natural choice to ensure the specified service life in the most challenging environments.

The Hatta hydroelectric facility will consist of a lower and an upper reservoir to store and use the surplus water from the Hatta Dam. Both reservoirs will be connected by a 1.2 km long pressure tunnel. Additionally waterways will consist of one tunnel of approx. 1300m length and 7m diameter to feed the powerhouse with approx. 200m³/s. Also part of the works is the construction of two road tunnels with a length of approximately 470 m and 440 m using blast excavation.

Melamchi Water supply Project

The Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) is considered to be the most viable long-term alternative to ease the chronic water shortage situation within the Kathmandu Valley. The Project is designed to divert about 170 MLD of fresh water to Kathmandu Valley from the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk district. Augmenting this supply by adding about a further 170 MLD each from the Yangri and Larke rivers, which lie in the upstream proximity of Melamchi are also being investigated as future supply sources.
